The Challenge
Royal Ascot demands an uncompromising technical standard. The venue needed to replace aging analog coax distribution with a resilient, scalable IP television and digital signage backbone. The solution had to ingest direct broadcast feeds from course camera crews for live jockey interviews, satellite downlink from Sky Sports Racing, and live Tote betting feeds—and distribute them across more than 1,000 endpoints with zero perceptual latency. Furthermore, the estate features 15 massive outdoor LED video walls exposed to sunlight and weather, 250+ private royal boxes with bespoke branding needs, and extreme spikes in network traffic during the Royal Meeting.
The StreamVue Solution & Architecture
StreamVue was selected in 2006 to architect and manage the site's complete enterprise visual distribution. StreamVue deployed custom Vivo appliance servers directly connected to course broadcast cameras, OB trucks, and satellite receivers, encoding uncompressed HD/4K video into optimized multicast IP streams. Conductor software provides centralized scheduling, automated race-replay switching, and dynamic sponsor takeovers. StreamVue developed custom Ovation client endpoints driving 1,000+ displays, including an API engine that merges real-time Bet with Ascot pool odds with live video. In private suites, custom interactive web applications allow guests to select preferred camera angles, control TVs via tablet, and review instant race replays.
